Does CBD Help With Bruises?

Does CBD Help With Bruises?

If you’re wondering whether CBD helps with bruises, here’s the honest answer: we don’t have enough research to say that CBD cream makes bruises disappear or heal faster.

You’ll find articles claiming that CBD for bruises can reduce discoloration, increase blood flow and repair damaged tissue. Those claims sound impressive, but they haven’t been proven in controlled human studies.

Some people still like applying a CBD topical to the unbroken skin around a bruise. That is a personal choice, but it shouldn’t replace basic first aid or medical care when a bruise is severe or appears without an obvious cause.

What Exactly Is a Bruise?

A bruise forms when an impact damages small blood vessels beneath your skin. Blood leaks into the surrounding tissue, creating the familiar red, blue, purple or black discoloration.

As your body clears away the trapped blood, the bruise may turn green, yellow or brown before fading. Most uncomplicated bruises gradually improve on their own.

Bruises are commonly caused by:

  • Bumping into an object
  • Falling
  • Sports injuries
  • Accidents
  • Muscle injuries
  • Medical procedures

Some medications, including blood thinners, can make a person bruise more easily. Frequent or unexplained bruising can also occasionally be a sign of an underlying health issue.

Does CBD Cream Help Bruises Heal Faster?

There are currently no strong human clinical studies showing that CBD cream speeds up the healing of bruises.

Researchers have studied CBD for several different purposes, including its possible effects on inflammation and discomfort. However, general CBD research does not prove that applying a commercially available CBD cream will shrink a bruise, change its color or make the damaged blood vessels heal faster.

This distinction is important.

A product can feel soothing on the skin without actually changing how quickly the bruise heals. CBD creams also contain other ingredients, so a person’s experience may come from the complete formula rather than CBD alone.

We don’t want to turn early research or customer experiences into medical promises. More human research specifically involving CBD for bruises is needed.

Can CBD Cream Make a Bruise Feel Better?

Some customers use CBD topicals on areas that feel sore after physical activity or a minor bump. A cream can also moisturize dry skin and give you a reason to slow down and care for the area.

That doesn’t mean the CBD is repairing the bruise.

If you decide to try CBD cream, only apply it to intact skin. Do not use it over a cut, scrape, open wound or other broken skin.

Avoid firmly massaging a fresh or painful bruise. A gentle application is enough. If touching the area causes significant pain, leave it alone and consider getting medical advice.

Our CBD Cream Recommendation

Inside 10000mg CBD Cream Jar

If you want to try a CBD topical around a minor bruise on unbroken skin, I recommend our 10,000mg High-Strength CBD Cream.

Each 4-ounce jar contains:

  • 10,000mg of CBD
  • 1,000mg of CBG
  • Aloe vera leaf extract
  • Arnica oil
  • Olive oil
  • MCT oil

A typical 2-gram application contains approximately 176mg of CBD.

The cream is available in two versions:

  • Original Natural: No added menthol or fragrance
  • Cooling Ice: Contains menthol for a noticeable cooling sensation

For use around a sensitive bruise, I would choose Original Natural. Cooling Ice may feel too intense on tender skin, especially if you have not used a menthol topical before.

Our cream contains aloe, arnica and plant-based oils, but we do not claim that these ingredients or the CBD will heal a bruise. This is simply the Quiet Monk product I would choose if you want a high-potency topical without added menthol or fragrance.

What Should You Do for a New Bruise?

For a typical minor bruise, basic first aid has better support than CBD cream.

MedlinePlus recommends:

  • Resting the injured area
  • Applying an ice pack wrapped in a clean towel
  • Keeping the area elevated when possible
  • Avoiding activity that makes the injury hurt more

Never put ice directly against your skin. MedlinePlus recommends using wrapped ice for up to 15 minutes at a time.

These steps can be especially helpful shortly after the injury. As the bruise heals, its color will normally change before gradually returning to your usual skin tone.

How to Apply CBD Cream Around a Minor Bruise

If the skin is intact and you decide to try CBD cream, keep the process simple:

  1. Read the complete ingredient list.
  2. Test a small amount on unaffected skin first.
  3. Check the bruised area for cuts or broken skin.
  4. Apply a small amount around the area.
  5. Spread it gently without pressing hard.
  6. Wash your hands after applying it.
  7. Stop using the product if your skin becomes irritated.

Do not apply CBD cream to your eyes, mouth or other sensitive areas. It should also not be used as a reason to ignore worsening pain or swelling.

When Should You Have a Bruise Checked?

Most minor bruises do not require medical treatment. However, contact a healthcare professional if:

  • You are bruising without an obvious injury
  • Bruises appear frequently or suddenly
  • The area is extremely painful or swollen
  • You feel intense pressure in the bruised area
  • You have numbness or difficulty moving
  • There are signs of infection
  • You take blood-thinning medication
  • The bruise does not begin improving
  • The injury may involve a broken bone

Seek urgent medical attention for severe pressure and pain following an injury. This can occasionally indicate a serious problem called compartment syndrome.

CBD for Bruises: My Bottom Line

CBD cream has not been proven to make bruises heal faster or disappear. While CBD research continues, we should not turn early findings into claims that haven’t been demonstrated in people.

For a normal minor bruise, rest, wrapped ice and elevation remain the practical first steps.

If you still want to try CBD cream on unbroken skin, our Original Natural 10,000mg CBD Cream is the formula I would choose. Apply it gently, stop if it irritates your skin and don’t use it on an open wound.

I would rather explain what we actually know than promise that a jar of cream will magically make a bruise disappear.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does CBD help with bruises?

There isn’t enough clinical evidence to conclude that CBD makes bruises heal faster or reduces discoloration. Some people use CBD topicals around sore areas, but individual experiences are not proof of bruise healing.

Can CBD cream reduce the appearance of a bruise?

CBD cream has not been proven to reduce bruise discoloration. Bruises naturally change color and fade as the body clears the blood trapped beneath the skin.

Can I put CBD cream directly on a bruise?

You can choose to apply a small amount gently if the skin is completely intact. Never apply CBD cream to a cut, scrape, open wound or broken skin.

Should I massage CBD cream into a bruise?

Avoid firm pressure or aggressive massage, especially when a bruise is fresh, swollen or painful. If you use a cream, spread it gently over intact skin.

Is a 10,000mg CBD cream better for bruises?

A higher concentration means more CBD per application, but it does not mean the cream will heal bruises faster. There is no medically established CBD strength for bruising.

How long does a bruise normally last?

Many minor bruises fade in approximately two weeks, although deeper muscle or bone bruises can take longer. Have a bruise checked if it is severe, unexplained or not improving.
