California Failed To Pass Legislation

We are disappointed to report that efforts have failed, for the time being, to pass legislation in California that would explicitly permit the retail sale of hemp-derived CBD as a dietary supplement, cosmetic, and food and beverage additive.

Due to intra-party fights that had nothing to do with legislation, (No surprise) the state Senate leadership refused to allow a vote on the legislative language, despite the Governor’s endorsement and the overwhelming bi-partisan support for hemp farmers and our industry.

However, Governor Newsom’s team agreed to immediately establish a policy of formal enforcement discretion, under which current retailers and manufacturers, operating in good faith compliance with current law, would be allowed to continue to sell and manufacture their hemp CBD products until a new law is enacted.

If you would like to read the Bill click below (Its 66 pages long!) Its in a pdf format

A big thank you to wherezhemp for keeping the industry updated!

How To Enhance The Effects of CBD With Food

fish and cbd

But which foods Steve?

A couple of recent reports propose that taking CBD with food may be beneficial. But which foods boost the effects of CBD?  Well today we will look into that very question!

Low rates of bio-availability (Yes I had to look up the definition when someone was talking about bio-availability a few years ago lol – the proportion of a drug or other substance which enters the circulation when introduced into the body and so is able to have an active effect.) have led people to ask how can we increase CBD effectiveness.

Due to the fact CBD oils are popular in the mainstream and not just with the hippie culture of the 60’s, it was just a matter of time before researches figured out how to maximize absorption rates. And yes taking CBD with certain foods can improve its bioavailability.

Another reason to love chocolate!

One study proposed that a high-fat meal elevated blood levels of CBD by a factor of 14. Cannabinoids are fat-soluble, and so the presence of fat might help CBD move into the bloodstream.

To improve absorption, consider pairing your CBD intake with foods which are rich in healthy fats:

  • Olive or sesame oil
  • MCT oil, or coconut oil, which can improve the bio-availability of CBD (This is standard in our CBD oils that we make here)
  • Emulsified fats, such as those found in chocolate or mayonnaise (Yes, thank you! I wont feel guilty eating that Hershey bar now)
  • Nuts
  • Avocado (Just another reason for me to add more Guacamole to my burrito!)
  • Fish

Either eat your meal and then take your CBD drops or add the CBD oil to foods like oatmeal and smoothies.

How To Make Peanut Butter CBD Dog Treats

Peanut butter cbd dog treats

Regardless of whether you’re in the process of training your fur baby or you want to give them treats to help with their everyday aches and pains this recipe is delicious

Peanut butter treats are appreciated by dogs all over the world and will also be the ideal beginning for your dog’s CBD journey.

For this particular recipe, you will need:

  •  ¼ cup of peanut butter
  • 2 large eggs
  • ¼ cup coconut oil
  • 3 cups flour (If your dog is gluten intolerant, you can use gluten-free flour as an alternative.)
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2/3 cup of apple sauce
  • CBD oil (Pet or human cbd oil will work just fine)

SIDE NOTE: If you are using a human CBD oil please be sure it is all-natural (no flavorings, especially peppermint as that can sometimes irritate their stomachs) We of course have an all-natural CBD oil (shameless self-promotion) and a pet CBD oil. As for me I use the human cbd oil because it is more value for the money. But you can use the pet cbd oil as well, they just tend to be a lower milligram. On a side note the only difference between a pet cbd oil and a human one is that the human oil has to adhere to higher standards in the development process.

Amount of CBD Oil To Add: The amount you are going to add is going to be dependent on how much your dog weighs. I would start with 2 full droppers of a 1000mg oil. If you are using one of our 1000mg CBD sprays that would be 6 squirts. Thats about 60mg for the whole batch of treats you are making. Which depending how how big you make your treats could average out to about 6mg per treat if you made 10 treats.

Once you have all the necessary ingredients gathered up you are ready to begin

Step 1 – preheat the oven up to 350 degrees

Step 2 – Add in the apple sauce, peanut butter, eggs and oils into a bowl

Step 3 – Slowly mix in the baking soda and flour to make a firm dough. Making sure that the flour is thoroughly combined into the mix.

Step 4 – Portion the dough into the size that best fits your pet. I like to roll it into small balls. Small enough to where if Shadow (that’s my dog) gulps it down she wont choke on it. But everyone knows their dog best so please do what’s appropriate for your fur baby.

Step 5 – Place the portions onto the cookie sheet and place in the oven for 15 minutes.

DONE!

A few Tips

Avoid Toxic Ingredients – There are some ingredients that are poisonous to dogs. Raisins and chocolate especially.

Don’t give them all out at once – Its going to be delicious and they will beg for more. However, keep in mind that CBD should be consumed in moderation.

Keep an eye on their behavior – If you notice any changes in the health or behavior of your pooch, do not hesitate to give your veterinarian a call. Mine will usually just go lay down after, she gets very relaxed.
